Wild Women Retreat 2016

  • Skyberry Farms

"Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species." - Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Organized around the belief that all women possess a vast and fertile wilderness within, Wild Women offers a gathering space for exploration, discovery and connection with our most primitive, vibrant spirit.

We are the medicine-keepers, magic-makers, and storytellers. We believe in sisterhood, stewardship and community and we know that, when women gather together in the wild, good things inevitably follow.

My name is Elissa. I am a herbalist, writer, feminist and environmental activist. I believe in the healing power of plants. Milkweed Medicinal is the platform that allows me to share this with others through herbal medicine, event facilitation, and community education.  Some call it magic, some call it science. What I know is that plants, even common weeds, contain incredible, medicinal properties. With proper knowledge and application of these plant materials, we become healthier, empowered and more vibrant stewards of our environment and own bodies. No more chemicals: no more waste, no more suffering due to cruel, beauty and pharmaceutical industries. Just you and me together, on a plant journey toward holistic wellness. I am certified through the Sage Mountain Herbalism School and have studied with Dr. JJ Pursell. However, I continue to grow and learn through new relationships to plants and people alike.

Goddess Hair Care

  • White Salmon Studio

In this class, we will learn how to create our own hair products based on individual hair needs like texture, length, outdoor exposure and color. We will discuss various herbs like sage, rosemary, hibiscus and chamomile and how each can be used to infuse nourishing hair mists and oils as well as examine the differences between natural oils that penetrate vs coat the hair. We will explore the no shampoo method and tonics folks can use to clean hair in lieu of shampoo. Each class member will leave with a custom dry shampoo, hair mist and a deeper understanding of how to incorporate plants into daily hair care routines in the future. Participants will also be able to craft products at home based on the knowledge and resources gained in our goddess hair class.
